UPDATE -- JUNE 16, 2013

LIVERPOOL – It's official -- the family-based Cougar Bowl team (Rochester USBC BA), representing the Honeoye Falls area, is the Team Handicap champion of the 89th NYS Open Championships, which took place in April and May at Flamingo Bowl. The victory is worth $3,400.

Prize checks were mailed in mid-June; cashers are requested to please cash the checks as soon as possible.

Bowling on the tournament's final weekend, the quintet of Mike Kime, son Jason Kime, daughter Heather Kime, Gene Welch and John Bell posted 3,470 with handicap (3,025 scratch) to move past Tom’s Gang II (Westchester County USBC), which had held the lead from the opening weekend. Tom's Gang II placed second at 3,445 and earned $2,350.

The tournament drew 237 teams, 527 Doubles, 1,054 Singles and 883 All-Events – an increase of 100 bowlers from the previous year. One in five places in each category (including five scratch scores) cashed.

Champions in the other events are as follows:

TEAM SCRATCH -- RPM Auto (Seven Valley USBC), 3,415. The team placed third in the Handicap division, thus will receive that prize ($1,750), which is much higher than the prize for placing first in the Scratch division.

DOUBLES HANDICAP -- Doug Platt and Franklin Albro (Lake Ontario USBC BA), 1,519, $1,700.

DOUBLES SCRATCH -- Joe Conti Jr. (Syracuse USBC BA) and Mike Rose Jr. (Rochester USBC BA), 1,475, but receives the prize for placing fourth overall ($800).

SINGLES HANDICAPCameron Mitchell (Adirondack USBC) and Charles Mashaw Sr. (Syracuse USBC BA), tie, 790, $850 apiece.

SINGLES SCRATCH -- Jim Zimmerman (Syracuse USBC BA), 772, but receives the prize for placing ninth overall ($280).

ALL-EVENTS HANDICAP, SCRATCHCraig Morrell’s (Adirondack USBC), 2,189, which placed first in both divisions, $440. Morrell's All-Events Scratch title includes a paid entry to the 2014 USBC Masters.

Champions in each event will receive plaques from the NYS USBC.
